Korea's Donga Special Construction has launched a renewed attempt to invalidate a patent held by Swiss company Geobrugg AG, despite a previous failed effort.

The disputed patent, KR2204557, titled "Wire Mesh and Method for Identifying a Suitable Wire," was first challenged by Donga in December 2022 through an invalidation trial filed with the Korean Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board (KIPTAB). In January 2024, the board partially upheld Donga's arguments but dismissed the remainder.

Geobrugg appealed the decision in March 2024 by filing a suit with the Patent Court. The court ruled in favor of Geobrugg in February 2025. Following the remand, KIPTAB reexamined the case and in March 2025 rejected Donga's invalidation claims in full.

Notably, Donga had already filed a second invalidation trial against the same patent back in September 2024, prior to the Patent Court's final ruling. The timing suggests that Donga may have anticipated an unfavorable outcome in the appeal or was unsatisfied with the partial result of the first trial.
