Semes Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, has filed invalidation petitions against two Korean patents held by Run Tech related to fire protection technologies for logistics systems.

The petitions, submitted in November 2024 to the Korean Intellectual Property Tribunal (KIPTAB), challenge Patent No. KR2049303 titled "Fire Retardant Shutter Device for Master Rail of Lift" and Patent No. KR2012433 titled "Fire Retardant Door Device for Lift."

Both patents cover fire safety mechanisms designed for use in vertical logistics transport systems. They aim to prevent the spread of smoke and flames in the event of a fire and are applicable to automated lift or inter-floor transport equipment.

The '303 patent discloses a fire-retardant shutter mechanism installed within a lift's master rail, while the '433 patent describes a dual-door system that seals off the entrance to the lift shaft. When combined, the two inventions offer a comprehensive fire protection solution, covering both the lift shaft entry and the internal rail structure.
