LG Display has acquired full rights to two U.S. OLED patent applications previously co-owned with DuPont Specialty Materials Korea, according to a patent assignment executed in May.
The patents — U.S. Application No. 17/544,366, filed in 2021, and U.S. Application No. 18/781,310, filed in July 2024 — are titled "Organometallic Compound, Organic Light Emitting Diode and Organic Light Emitting Device Including the Organometallic Compound" and "Organometallic Compound, Organic Light Emitting Diode and Organic Light Emitting Device Including the Same," respectively.
Under the agreement signed in May 2025, DuPont Specialty Materials Korea transferred its entire interest in the two patent applications to LG Display, including ownership, prosecution rights, rights to sue for past infringement, and rights to future filings such as continuations, divisionals, reissues, and reexaminations.
The two companies have also jointly filed and registered four OLED-related patents in South Korea, including KR2782649 (Organic Light Emitting Diode Device, registered March 2025), KR2811855 (Organic Light Emitting Diode and Organic Light Emitting Device Having the Same, registered May 2025), KR2733298 (registered November 2024), and KR2687414 (registered July 2024). These Korean patents remain co-owned by both parties.
