SK Hynix and KuritaHansu have initiated a collaboration in water treatment technology with the co-filing of two patent applications in Korea. The technologies, disclosed as pending as of April 11, 2025, highlight advanced methods addressing both fluoride- and nitrogen-containing wastewater challenges.
The first patent application, titled "Method for treating wastewater containing fluorine and system for treating wastewater containing fluorine for the same" (Application No. KR1020230026896), was disclosed in September 2024. It describes a treatment process that prevents fouling of filtration and reverse osmosis membranes caused by scale formation. The method ensures sustained operational stability and effectively lowers concentrations of organic and inorganic matter when treating wastewater that includes fluoride components.
The second application, titled "Apparatus for treatment of nitrogen wastewater using a degassing membrane and method therefor" (Application No. KR1020250030168), was disclosed in March 2025. This technology involves introducing raw nitrogen-laden wastewater, particularly containing ammonia, into a chamber equipped with a degassing membrane. The system then removes ammonia from the feed through a dedicated degassing unit, providing a more efficient treatment process for nitrogen wastewater.
These filings mark the first joint venture between the two companies in the realm of wastewater treatment patents. With the recent disclosure of the second patent, further collaborative patents may be on the horizon.
