Trumpf Laser has initiated a patent infringement lawsuit against IPG Laser GmbH & Co KG in the Mannheim Local Division Court in Germany.

The suit, filed in December 2024, targets infringement of two patents: EP2624031 ("Method and Arrangement for generating a laser beam having a differing beam profile characteristic by means of a multi-clad fibre") and EP-2951625-B1 ("Fibre optical laser combiner").

Trumpf Laser is the plaintiff in the case concerning EP2624031, a patent that it filed and registered in 2011. In the suit regarding EP-2951625-B1, Trumpf Laser UK Ltd is listed as the plaintiff. This patent was originally filed by SPI Lasers UK Ltd in 2014 and later acquired by Trumpf Laser. The U.S. family patent for EP-2951625-B1 is US9620925B2, which, like its European counterpart, was initially filed by SPI Lasers UK Ltd before ownership transferred to Trumpf Laser UK Ltd in December 2024.

Notably, this marks the latest litigation move by Trumpf Laser. The company previously pursued patent infringement action in the United States in 2008 against Amglo Kemlite Laboratories Inc in the Illinois Northern District Court, but no subsequent U.S. infringement suits have been filed.
