LS Electric Co. has successfully invalidated a Rootech patent covering an electric power measuring system, marking its second win against the company's portfolio this year.
On Aug. 29, the Korean Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board (KIPTAB) ruled that claims 1 through 9 of Rootech's patent KR1012271, titled "Electric Power Measuring System for Multi-Line Increasing Efficiency and Simplicity Thereof," are invalid. The decision fully adopted LS Electric's January 2024 petition, which sought to cancel the claims in their entirety.
The latest ruling follows a June decision in which KIPTAB also invalidated claims 1 through 4 of another Rootech patent, KR1469448, directed to a similar power measuring system. That case likewise stemmed from an LS Electric invalidation petition filed in December 2023.
Rootech has already appealed the June decision to the Korean Patent Court, and it remains unclear whether the company will take a similar step against the recent ruling.
