FTSS has asked Korea's patent tribunal to confirm that a rival company's liquid leak detection technology falls within the scope of its patent, marking the company's first offensive patent action against a-mers.
FTSS filed a positive scope confirmation trial in April 2024 at the Korean Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board (KIPTAB), asserting that A-mers' accused sensor is covered by claim 1 of KR2053005, titled "Liquid Leak Detect Sensor of Outdoors Type." This procedure allows patent owners to obtain a tribunal determination that a competitor's product infringes their patent.
The proceeding represents FTSS's first patent dispute with a-mers. According to its website, FTSS has supplied leak detection systems to Samsung Electronics' Giheung fab facilities — including LED Plenium, hazardous material storage, and LSI cleaning rooms — as well as the company's Onyang operations. A-mers, meanwhile, advertises that it provides leak detection sensors to Maeil Dairies, Wonik Materials, and Korea Zinc.
