Solus Advanced Materials has successfully defended its OLED materials patent against a cancellation challenge in South Korea.

The Korean Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board (KIPTAB) on May 29, 2025, dismissed a cancellation request targeting Korean Patent No. 2692702, titled "Organic Light-Emitting Compound and Organic Electroluminescent Device Using the Same." The patent was registered with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) in August 2024. The KIPTAB decision is final and not subject to appeal.

Under Korean law, any party may file a cancellation request within six months of a patent's registration, regardless of standing—unlike invalidation trials, which are limited to interested parties or examiners. As a result, competitors often file cancellation petitions under individual names to avoid disclosing their identity.

A separate cancellation request for the same patent, filed in January 2025, remains pending, with a decision expected soon.
