Tosoh Reclaims Full Rights To 4 U.S. Fluororesin Patent Applications From Nitto Denko

Tosoh Corporation has reclaimed full ownership of four pending U.S. patent applications related to fluororesin technologies, following the return of previously shared rights by Nitto Denko Corporation.

In March 2024, Tosoh had partially assigned its rights in the four applications to Nitto Denko. One year later, in March 2025, Nitto Denko relinquished its stake in all four applications, allowing Tosoh to retake sole control of the intellectual property.

The four applications remain ungranted and are focused on enhancing the optical and thermal performance of fluororesin materials. The filings respectively address ultraviolet transmittance improvement, haze suppression for high transparency, and particle-form resins with improved thermal stability.

Such reversals in patent sharing are often seen when joint development projects do not proceed to commercialization, prompting the original assignee to reacquire exclusive rights.
