Korean semiconductor startup MangoBoost has acquired two Korean patents from the Seoul National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation. In addition, MangoBoost secured a non-exclusive license for another patent held by the foundation.
The two purchased patents, titled "Storage Virtualization Device Supporting A Virtual Machine, Operation Method Thereof, And Operation Method Of System Having The Same" (KR2532099) and "Virtualization Device Including Storage Device And Computational Device, And Method Of Operating The Same" (KR2532100), had previously been subject to a non-exclusive license registered by Samsung Electronics in August 2023, with a license period from May 2023 to July 2041.
Separately, MangoBoost established a non-exclusive license for the patent "Apparatus For Controlling Input/Output Device, Operating Method Thereof And Operating Method Of Device Driver For Controlling Input/Output Device" (KR1980190), owned by the foundation. The license for this patent is effective from May 2024 to September 2037, while Samsung Electronics' non-exclusive license on the same patent remains in effect from May 2019 to 2037.
In addition, MangoBoost has converted four jointly held Korean patents to sole ownership. These patents, originally co-filed by MangoBoost Korea and the foundation, include "Toe-based Network Interface Card And Network Interface Method" (KR2536942), "Data Reduction Device, Data Reduction Method And System Including Data Reduction Device" (KR2535532), "Toe-based Network Interface Device, Operation Method Thereof, And Server Device Including The Same" (KR2535531), and "Data Reduction Device, Data Reduction Method And System Including Data Reduction Device" (KR2536943). Notably, Samsung Electronics does not hold a non-exclusive license for these four patents.
