The Korean Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board (KIPTAB) has canceled key claims of Olum Material's patent titled "Mask for Forming OLED Picture Element and Template for Supporting Mask and Mask Integrated Frame" (KR2458729). The October 2024 decision invalidated claims 1 and 3 through 6 following a cancellation request filed in April 2023. The request to cancel claim 2 was dismissed.
This patent was the result of a national research and development project supported by South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy. The project, titled "Development of 800ppi OLED FMM for Mobile Devices and 3000ppi OLED FMM for AR/VR Devices, Along with Ultra-Precision Measurement, Assembly, and Inspection Tools," was conducted between January and December 2022.
The recently challenged patent stems from an earlier application, KR2358270, which shares the same title and was also developed under the national R&D initiative. Notably, the original patent has not yet been subject to any disputes.
