Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation transfered a U.S. patent to 42dot in November 2024. The patent, titled "Face Image Generation Method and Device for Generating Fully-Controllable Talking Face," was filed in April 2024 and published in October 2024, though it has not yet been granted.

According to the patent's abstract, the technology enables the creation of talking face images by incorporating audio and motion data into still images. This allows a static face to appear as though it is speaking in sync with a given audio input.

42dot, a startup specializing in autonomous driving software and mobility platforms, has been developing Transportation as a Service (TaaS) solutions. The company's innovations include AI systems that integrate cameras, radar, and global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) to predict environmental factors, vehicle distances, and speeds. It has also pioneered lightweight mapping technologies for Level 4 autonomous driving, eliminating reliance on high-definition maps.

As of the end of 2023, Hyundai owns 56.93% of 42dot, while Kia holds 37.95%, and Lotte Rental retains a 2.99% stake.
