Texas-based PanelTouch Technologies LLC has taken a legal step against Chinese display giant BOE, alleging infringement on a suite of display and touch panel patents. The lawsuit was filed on February 27, 2025, in the Eastern District of Texas.

According to the complaint, PanelTouch is alleging infringement of five patents related to display and touch panel technology. The patents in question include US8,704,762 (Display Device), US8,803,836 (Display Device With Touch Panel), US9,250,758 (Display Device with Touch Panel), US9,507,477 (Display Device), and US11,126,025 (In-cell Touch Panel).

A noteworthy aspect of this litigation is the origin of the patents being enforced. The five patents claimed by PanelTouch are part of a larger portfolio of 143 U.S. patents acquired in March 2024 from Panasonic Intellectual Property Corporation of America and Japan Display Inc. (JDI). At the time of acquisition, 126 of these patents were jointly owned by Panasonic and JDI, while the remaining 17 were solely held by Panasonic.
