Magic Leap has secured amendments to two of its Korean patents, both titled "Virtual User Input Controls in a Mixed Reality Environment" (KR2531542 and KR2830052).

The company filed correction petitions for the '542 and '052 patents in October 2025, and the Korea Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board (KIPTAB) granted the requests on Nov. 27, 2025.

The patents cover technology that allows a wearable AR device to replace a physical remote by generating a virtual control interface and detecting finger movements as input signals.

Using computer-vision capabilities, the AR/VR wearable identifies physical remotes or the devices they control — such as TVs or air conditioners — and presents users with a virtual control panel within their field of view. The system digitally replicates the functions of a physical remote, enabling users to select a virtual remote by looking at or pointing toward the target device. Virtual buttons are mapped to defined three-dimensional spaces, and the system registers an input when a user's finger or another body part enters the associated volume.

Both patents are divisional applications, leaving open the possibility of additional amendment proceedings related to the broader family. Priority for the two patents traces back to U.S. provisional applications 62/430,279 and 62/430,308.
