The Korean Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board (KIPTAB) has dismissed five invalidation trials filed by Soulbrain Holdings against patents held by J&K Industry, according to decisions issued in mid-July 2025.
The patents at issue, which were filed for invalidation by Soulbrain Holdings in March 2024, include KR0444191 (Probe Positioning and Bonding System and Method Thereof), KR0592214 (Method for Manufacturing Probe Card), KR0573089 (Probe and Manufacturing Method Thereof), KR0876077 (Micro Probe Structure), and KR0450310 (Method for Manufacturing Probe for Testing Flat Panel Display, Probe Thereby, and Probe Assembly Having It).
Each of these patents focuses on innovations in the structural design and manufacturing of precision probes used in the electrical testing of semiconductors and flat panel displays. The technologies enable fine-pitch probing for increasingly compact and integrated devices.
Soulbrain Holdings may appeal the dismissal decisions by filing cancellation lawsuits with the Korean Patent Court.
J&K Industry, the patent owner, has gone through several name changes since its founding in 1996 as Pyeongchang Hi-Tech Industry. It previously operated under names including Pycom, TSC Memsys, Soulbrain ENG, Foxbrain, and Aibit, before adopting the current name J&K Industry in 2021.
