Soulbrain Holdings has filed invalidation petitions against five Korean patents held by J&K Industry, formerly known by multiple corporate names, with proceedings initiated at the Korean Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board (KIPTAB) in March 2024.
The patents at issue include KR0444191 (Probe Positioning and Bonding System and Method Thereof), KR0450310 (Method for Manufacturing Probe for Testing Flat Panel Display, Probe Thereby, Probe Assembly Having It), KR0573089 (Probe and Manufacturing Method Thereof), KR0592214 (Method for Manufacturing Probe Card), and KR0876077 (Micro Probe Structure).
These patents focus on structural and manufacturing innovations in high-precision probes used for electrical testing of semiconductors and flat panel displays. All five share a common goal of enabling fine-pitch probing in increasingly miniaturized and densely integrated device architectures.
The company has undergone multiple name changes since its founding on June 19, 1996, as Pyeongchang Hi-Tech Industry. It later operated under the names Pycom (2000), TSC Memsys (2009), Soulbrain ENG (2012), Foxbrain (2016), Aibit (2018), and, most recently, J&K Industry (2021).
The KIPTAB proceedings are ongoing.
