LS Electric Co., Ltd. has filed invalidation trials with the Korean Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board (KIPTAB) against two patents held by Rootech Co., Ltd., targeting electric power monitoring technologies designed to improve measurement efficiency in industrial and building control systems.
The petitions, filed in December 2023, challenge Korean Patent Nos. KR1012271 and its divisional, KR1469448. Both patents are titled "Electric Power Measuring System for Multi-Line Increasing Efficiency and Simplicity Thereof."
The inventions relate to systems that monitor voltage, current, and power consumption across both main and branch lines in power distribution panels or motor control centers. According to the patent descriptions, the technology aims to reduce unnecessary wiring—such as sensor signal lines and communication cables—by enabling streamlined data collection and transmission. The system digitizes measured data and facilitates centralized or remote power monitoring, enhancing both operational efficiency and installation simplicity.
KIPTAB proceedings are ongoing.
