On March 31, 2025, Nokia Technologies filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Hisense International Co., Ltd. and Hisense Gorenje Germany GmbH in the Munich Court. The suit targets patent EP2661892, titled "Motion Prediction in Video Coding."

The Munich Court operates under the United Patent Court (UPC) framework, meaning that any ruling will have implications across all UPC member states. This cross-border scope underscores the potential for far-reaching impact if the court finds in favor of Nokia.

This litigation marks the latest in a series of patent disputes involving Hisense in Europe.

In December 2024, Corning Incorporated brought a separate action against Hisense Gorenje Germany GmbH, Hisense Europe Holding GmbH, LG Electronics, and TCL before the Mannheim Court—another forum under UPC jurisdiction. That suit centers on patent EP3296274, titled "Fining of boroalumino silicate glasses," a technology used in manufacturing glass substrates for LCD panels.
