Samsung Electronics acquired 16 U.S. patents related to 3D vision processing from VanGogh Imaging on February 26, 2025.

The acquired patents cover a range of technologies, including 3D data compression, vision processing engines, non-rigid object reconstruction, 3D scanning and photogrammetry, texture alignment, and real-time remote collaboration with virtual presence. These technologies are critical to enabling advanced computer vision systems in fields such as robotics, augmented reality, and smart devices.

Patents in the 3D vision and processing engine category relate to real-time object recognition and reconstruction. Those addressing non-rigid object modeling focus on shape-based registration and the reconstruction of complex, deformable structures. The 3D scanning and photogrammetry patents support object capture and reconstruction using edge cloud computing and keyframe-based tracking.

Several patents are also geared toward real-time remote collaboration, avatar-based telepresence, and synchronized 3D facial animation—technologies that are increasingly vital for mission-critical applications in remote operations and telerobotics. One patent focuses specifically on real-time dynamic texture alignment for 3D models.

VanGogh Imaging describes itself as a provider of 3D computer vision software and algorithms, offering licensing and system integration support for medical and industrial robotics, as well as IoT and smart consumer devices.

This marks the first known U.S. patent acquisition by Samsung Electronics from VanGogh Imaging.
