Samsung Electronics and the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Soonchunhyang University have jointly filed a patent application titled "Monitoring System and Method of Inkjet Head" (Application No. 1020220183114).
The patent application was filed in December 2022 and publicly disclosed in June 2024, with no filings in countries outside of Korea as of February 2025.
According to the application, the inkjet head monitoring system comprises an inkjet head, a driver, a sensing circuit, and a processor. The inkjet head is constructed with multiple nozzles, each containing a piezo element and a switching element. The driver applies a predetermined voltage to each nozzle, while the sensing circuit receives self-sensing signals generated by the piezo elements. The processor controls the overall system.
The processor sends a signal to the driver to apply voltage across all nozzles and collects the piezo element signals via the sensing circuit at a predetermined scanning frequency. Data corresponding to specific frequencies is then extracted from the collected signals, enabling the monitoring of the status of the multiple nozzles.
