The South Korean patent held by Toppan Holdings, titled "Wavelength Conversion Sheet, Backlight Unit, and Film for Protecting Luminescent Substance" (KR2446693), was officially canceled in March 2024.

The Korean Intellectual Property Tribunal (KIPT) issued its decision in December 2023, invalidating claims 1–2, 4–5, 8–12, 14–15, 17, and 19–24 of the patent. This decision stemmed from a cancellation request filed in March 2023, which the tribunal upheld. Toppan Holdings did not appeal the KIPT's decision, rendering it final. As a result, the patent is now nullified.

The patent pertained to liquid crystal display (LCD) devices utilizing backlight units (BLU). According to its abstract, the patented wavelength conversion sheet includes a phosphor and one or more barrier films that seal the phosphor. At least one of the barrier films features a coating layer with optical functionality, applied to its surface.

Despite the cancellation of the South Korean patent, the corresponding U.S. patent (US10,120,110B2), titled "Wavelength Conversion Sheet, Backlight Unit, and Phosphor Protective Film," remains active.

As of January 2025, Toppan Holdings has filed and registered a total of 16 patents with the term "wavelength conversion" in their titles with the Korean Intellectual Property Office.
