Samsung Electronics completed the acquisition of four U.S. patents from Oxford Semantic Technologies, a UK-based startup, in November 2024. This follows Samsung's acquisition of the company in July 2024.

Oxford Semantic Technologies specializes in knowledge graph technology, which enables data storage and processing in a manner akin to human memory and recall. Founded in 2017 by three professors from the University of Oxford, the company has made strides in advancing intelligent data management.

The four patents acquired by Samsung pertain to database and data processing technologies.

Two of the patents, U.S. Patent Nos. 10817467 and 11409698, focus on parallel materialisation of logical rules in databases. This technology enables the parallel processing of a set of logical rules within a logical database, significantly enhancing database performance. Applications include large-scale database processing, rule-based reasoning systems, and real-time data analytics.

The remaining two patents, U.S. Patent Nos. 11216456 and 11645278, address complex query evaluation using sideways information passing. This technology optimizes the evaluation of complex database queries by efficiently sharing and passing intermediate query results, improving query speed and resource utilization. Potential applications include high-performance query engines, data warehouses, and unstructured data processing.
