Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. has acquired 75 U.S. patents from Taiwanese company PixArt Imaging Inc. over several years, with 23 patents transferred in 2024, 24 in 2018, and 28 in 2019. The patents cover a range of technologies, primarily focused on imaging sensor advancements.
The most recent acquisition of 23 patents in 2024 includes innovations in Flicker Detection and Reduction, Image Sensor Design and Fabrication, Readout and Processing Circuits, Optical Sensor Enhancements, and Motion and Image Processing.
These technologies align with ongoing advancements in imaging sensor design, notably CMOS image sensors, image quality improvements, flicker reduction, and enhanced processing circuits. The patents are likely to play a significant role in Samsung’s broader strategy to enhance its imaging capabilities across mobile devices and specialized cameras.
Previous acquisitions in 2018 and 2019 also included patents related to image sensor performance enhancement, 3D sensing, distance measurement, and optical sensors.
Samsung appears to have strategically targeted these technologies to boost the performance of smartphone cameras, AR/VR devices, IoT, and home devices, aiming to enhance sensor performance and deliver more natural user interactions.
