Hyundai Motor Company and Kia have made significant strides in advancing their autonomous driving and AI technologies through the acquisition of U.S. patents from Intel.

Following the purchase of 10 patents from Intel in 2022, Hyundai and Kia continued their acquisition spree by securing 9 more patents in 2023 and an additional 27 in 2024. The total of 46 patents covers a range of technologies, including autonomous driving, data processing, artificial intelligence, voice recognition, safety, and privacy protection.

The patents, acquired between 2022 and 2024, fall into five key categories: autonomous driving and vehicle control, data processing and computing, voice and user interface technologies, safety and collision avoidance, and privacy and security.

The 2022-2023 acquisitions primarily focus on enhancing autonomous driving capabilities, voice recognition systems, and safety features. Meanwhile, the 2024 acquisitions show a more concentrated effort towards improving data processing and computing performance within autonomous driving systems.
