Samsung Display has acquired ownership of 18 U.S. Quantum Dot (QD) patents from Samsung Electronics as part of a patent transfer on July 17, 2024.
The transaction included the transfer of 13 patents solely to Samsung Display, along with the conversion of five patents from Samsung Electronics’ sole ownership to joint ownership with Samsung Display.
Samsung Display, currently mass-producing QD-OLED panels for companies like Samsung Electronics and Sony, is focusing on ramping up production of QD-OLED panels for monitors over TVs.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics’ OLED TVs incorporate both Samsung Display’s QD-OLED panels and LG Display’s W-OLED panels, with a larger portion of the lineup using LG Display’s W-OLED technology.
