Samsung Electronics has failed to secure inter partes review institution at the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board for four network-related patents owned by Massively Broadband.
In decisions issued Jan. 27, 2026, the PTAB declined to institute review of U.S. Patent No. 8,350,763, titled "Active Antennas for Multiple Bands in Wireless Portable Devices"; U.S. Patent No. 11,063,625, titled "Steerable Antenna Device"; U.S. Patent No. 8,923,754, titled "Broadband Relay for Wireless Networks"; and U.S. Patent No. 10,224,999, titled "Broadband Repeater With Security for Ultrawideband Technologies."
Samsung filed the IPR petitions in September 2025, seeking to invalidate the asserted patents amid ongoing infringement litigation brought by Massively Broadband.
Massively Broadband sued Samsung in June 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, accusing the company of infringing twelve patents related to wireless networking technologies. The four patents at issue in the denied IPRs are among those asserted in the Texas action, Case No. 2:25-cv-00608.
Following the filing of the district court case, Samsung petitioned the PTAB for inter partes review of all twelve asserted patents. The PTAB's latest rulings address four of those petitions.
IPR petitions challenging the remaining eight patents remain pending before the board.
