Nvidia has failed to secure a patent registration for its "5G NR Signal Processing" technology in South Korea.

In February 2025, the Korean Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board (IPTAB) dismissed Nvidia's appeal of its patent application rejection titled "Accelerated parallel processing of 5G NR signal information" (Application No. KR10-2022-7016004).

Nvidia had initially challenged the Korean Intellectual Property Office's (KIPO) decision to deny the patent registration. However, the IPTAB ruled against the company, upholding the original rejection. Nvidia may challenge this ruling by filing a lawsuit with the Patent Court of Korea to seek annulment of the IPTAB's decision.

The patent in question pertains to signal processing technology utilizing parallel processing units (PPUs) in a 5G NR (New Radio) network. 5G NR is a radio access technology (RAT) developed by the 3GPP.

The Korean family patent (Application No. KR10-2024-7042889) remains pending. Both patents claim priority from Nvidia's U.S. patent application (US16/716,350), which remains ungranted.
