Hyundai Mobis and its spin-off Withforce have jointly filed five South Korean patents related to wearable suit technology.
Withforce was spun off from Hyundai Mobis in January 2023. In the first quarter of 2023, Hyundai Mobis acquired a 10% stake in Withforce for KRW 100 million.
The two companies began filing joint patents for wearable suits in March 2022. Of the five patents, one has been granted, three remain published, and one was rejected.
According to the patent specifications, the wearable suit utilizes a shape memory alloy-based muscle support unit to assist user strength, simplify the structure, reduce weight, and eliminate noise from motor-driven components.
The companies further explained that while traditional wearable robots rely on AI for posture control, situational awareness, and motion signal generation, wearable suits transfer these functions directly to the user. The technology is designed to enhance user strength and mobility across various scenarios.
Withforce stated on its website that it aims to promote technologies that prevent musculoskeletal disorders and contribute to a safer working environment. Hyundai Mobis' 2024 business report, released in March 2025, did not explicitly mention wearable suit technology.
